The Walton Wellness Health initiative is a product of The Partnership for Families, Children and Youth. Funding is provided by a grant from The Walton County Healthcare Foundation inc.

How We Got Here: In 2005 due to state budget cuts, Walton County Public Health lost its Health Educator Position, the only position of its kind in the county. This created a tremendous gap in services to Walton citizens. The Partnership, charged with filling gaps in services in the community, began to search for funds to recreate this position. The search for funds ended where it began, at home, with the Walton County Health Care Foundation Inc. The grant was awarded with an option to renew for five years on the understanding that each year the funds from the foundation would decrease. The decreased % each year is expected to be matched with funds from the community. The purpose behind the decrease in funds each year is based on the expectation that at the end of the five year cycle the Walton County Community will accept ownership of the program by funding it.

Q.  What is Comprehensive Health Education?

A:  Today, through years of research we know more about what makes a person healthy than ever before.  We now understand that there is more to our health than what medications we take or don’t take.  Our health is about our lifestyle and the environment where we live that lifestyle.  Comprehensive means more than traditional means of passive education. Walton Wellness is about helping Walton County Citizens achieve healthy living by incorporating activities, initiating sustainable programs and implementing a community value of healthy living for all ages

 

Q.  Who does Walton Wellness Serve?

A.  All Walton County Citizens from age 0 – 100

 

Q.  How does Walton Wellness Serve the Schools?

A.  The Health Educator is available for classroom presentations on a several health related topics and also works with individual schools and classes on special projects as requested.

 

Q.  How does Walton Wellness Work with the existing medical community?

A.  Walton Wellness started the Wellness Coalition for Wellness professionals and interested Citizens.  The coalition acts as a network among the medical community and brings together community resources to tackle health issues in our community.
